Description
See turtles laying their eggs in one of the most important places in the world! Isla Cañas is one of the 11 places where the Olive Ridley turtle does their arribadas. This tour is available ONLY from the 15 of July to the 15 of December.
Includes:
- Boat crossing: boat has a certified captain and life vests. Maximum capacity for 6 people. Crossing is done from the Port of Cañas to Isla Cañas and return.
- Dinner: is served in a local restaurant. Food options include catch of the day, seafood, meat or chicken with potatoes, rice, patacones or salad. Vegetarian options are available.
- Tour on a carriage: go from the port to the turtle nesting area on a carriage that has capacity for 4 people. The carriage has two tires and is pulled by a horse with a local guide as the driver.
- Turtle observation tour: the sea turtle observation tour is a walk through the conservation area in Isla Cañas. This is conducted by an authorized guide and you will be able to see the turtles laying in their natural area or babies being born on their way to the water. What you see depends on the tide, weather and season since it is a natural process.

Time: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (maximum 11 p.m.)
What to bring? sneakers or boots, long pants, rain jacket and mosquito repellent.
Important information: clients need to drive to the port of Cañas. Round trip transport is available for an additional fee of $30 from Playa Venao. Prices of a private tour are for 2 adults, if there are more than 2 adults the price is cost per shared person. Children pay a lower rate.
