Description
Cerro Hoya mountain expedition is not for the faint of heart since this multi day tour requires participants to be in good physical conditions. This challenging trip does not come without rewards since you will explore the largest reserve of primary jungle on the Azuero Peninsula of Panama. Very few people venture into this part of the country which is considered to be the first part of the isthmus to rise from the sea. For this reason there are rare and endemic species of plants and animals that can only be found here.
Of the six days you will spend three in Cerro Hoya Park. The expedition includes a hike up Summit Cerro Pirri which is 1300 above sea level and offers spectacular views of the national park.
Itinerary:
Day 1: travel from Panama City to Cambutal for approximately 5 hours depending on traffic. Includes dinner and welcome drinks
Day 2: beach morning for a swim after breakfast. After lunch you will take a boat ride to the foothills of Cerro Hoya National Park. See turtles, whales (seasonal), marlin and tuna along the ride. Relax during the evening for the next day adventures.
Day 3: sunrise coffee overlooking the sea and a light breakfast before beginning the hike towards Cerro Pirri basecamp. You will reach the basecamp by early afternoon, have lunch and relax after the day’s hike. Explore the area and have a campfire dinner.
Day 4: this day will start before the sun rises, since you will get to see the sunrise from Cerro Pirri summit. Then go back to basecamp for breakfast and coffee. Spend the rest of the day exploring this primary forest area and the watershed around the basecamp. Finish your day with a campfire dinner.
Day 5: have a light breakfast before packing and heading back down the mountain. The boat captain will be waiting by the coast to embark on the boat ride back to Cambutal. Relax during the afternoon and have dinner in the hotel or on the beach.
Day 6: eat breakfast and head back to Panama City.
